The Highland Games
It's May, which means its that time of year when we put on the Highland Games and celebrate all around Scotland. Plenty of contests, dancing and, of course, the food and drink. That time of year when you really let out your true heritage, and honour the legacy of Scotland.
The modernised version of the highland games as we understand them has been going about since 1800s, but has been connected back in older versions to the 1000s. So a staple of Scotland and a tradition that has spanned around a thousand years. The event includes activities such as the heavier stuff like the hammer throw, caber toss, then the iconic highland dancing, music, and tug o' war to name a few.
The tradition may have started in the Highlands but nowadays it ranges all across Scotland, from May til roughly September as there is a lot of places to go around and have events.
Some of the places that take part are Inverness, Dundonald, Stirling and even Pitlochry, near the Heathergems shop. The Pitlochry Highland Games takes place on the 14th of September!
So why not get yourself some Scots' wear from the Heathergems shop/website. A few recommendations to show off your heritage are Stag Kilt Pin, Tay Celtic Heathergem Sgian Dubh, or our brooches like the Scottie Dog Brooch and Thistle Brooch.
